The GEF SGP/RRA co-Funded project titled: Empowerment of Off-lagoon fishers in Rodrigues Island, republic of Mauritius.
- Empowering of off-lagoon fishers to encourage them to navigate more safely and ease access to off-lagoon fisheries will, therefore, contribute in reducing the conflict.
- The project was a complementary way support the seasonal octopus closure initiative of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly and provide support on navigation safety and ease access to off-lagoon fisheries.
- To support capacity building of off-lagoon fishers in view of developing sustainable off lagoon fishing sector and concomitantly reducing pressure on the artisanal fishery in Rodrigues.
- To improve access to off-lagoon fisheries resources to reduce pressure on the lagoon ecosystems and socio-economically important fisheries.
- To increase awareness regarding safety and security at sea among registered off-lagoon fishers and to empower registered off-lagoon fishers.
